This place, known as the „Markgräflerland“, stretches from South Freiburg to Basel. Weather maps of Germany almost always picture it with lovely warm weather, making it the perfect environment for both active holidaymakers or relaxation seekers.
With over 2,000 hours of sunshine a year, the "Tuscany of Germany" is definitely worth a trip, not only during the summer but in all seasons.

A true burst of colour
The flowers of 14,000 cherry trees provide a true colour explosion in spring in the Eggen Valley. In addition to the sunny climate and delicious wines that warm the heart, the Markgräflerland also offers an internal warmth from the depths of the earth, where hot springs bubble. The spa resorts of Badenweiler, Bad Krozingen and Bad Bellingen have fabulous natural hot springs.
Here, in the sphere of influence of French and Swiss cuisine, many gastronomic stars sparkle. There are many country inns inviting you to spend an enjoyable moment, as well as „Straußis“, the local farmhouse kitchens where wines are produced and local specialties are served.
In the rolling foothill area between the Rhine valley and the Black Forrest, excellent Burgundy vineyards thrive. You will be spoilt for choice as the typical wine of the Markgräflerland region, in addition to the Burgundy, is a tasting experience to be savoured. The Gutedel. The Gutedel (Chasselas) was bought in 1780 from the Swiss town of Vevey by Markgrave (later becoming Grand Duke) of Baden, Charles Frederick. Today, approximately half of the 3000 hectares are vineyards, dedicated to producing Weil am Rhein and Freiburg-St.Georgen wines. The best way to get to know the local wines, cuisine and countryside is to walk along the "Markgräfler Wiiwegli", a very picturesque hiking trail through the vineyards.
