Maltese Castle and Museum
It was not only the residence of an Imperial Prince, but also the seat of the German Grand Priory.
In the museum within the castle, located in the vaulted cellars of the former chancellery building, a permanent exhibition provides information about the Order of the Knights of Malta and the architectural history of the historic castle.
Among other things, visitors can view rare items from a library comprising over 600 volumes, copies of historical documents and old plans, life-size figures dressed in the robes of various dignitaries, and life-size suits of armour. A model shows what the former Maltese Castle complex looked like around 1773, complete with moats and Baroque gardens.
