Markgrafen Wine Trail
This section of the Markgräfler Wiiwegli (= Wine Trail) leads from the spa town of Bad Bellingen through an excellent wine-growing region to the heart of the Markgräflerland region, ending in Müllheim (Baden).
The Markgräflerland wine-growing region stretches from Basel in the south to Ebringen in the north, just outside Freiburg, and encompasses the foothills between the Rhine Valley and the southern Black Forest. On the Wiiwegli, you mainly pass through vineyards, but orchards and sunny deciduous forests also make the hike a varied treat for the senses. Along the way, numerous information boards provide fascinating facts about wine and its cultivation. Scattered throughout the route, charming wine-growing villages invite you to enjoy culinary delights and relax. At our starting point in Bad Bellingen, there are two thermal baths in the immediate vicinity of our route, where hikers can relax their legs in the warm, bubbling water. In Schliengen, the “Erste Markgräfler Winzergenossenschaft” (First Markgräfler Winegrowers’ Cooperative), founded in 1908, offers a wide range of top-quality local wines and invites visitors to wine tastings. In Auggen, the seawater spa attracts visitors with saltwater wraps and special treatments. The heart of the Markgräfler wine-growing region, the town of Müllheim, boasts a lovingly restored historic town centre, the Baroque St. Martin’s Church with its precious 14th-century paintings, and the Markgräfler Museum, which provides detailed information on viticulture.
